Ellendale Neighborhood Association Meeting Minutes

1. Call to OrderThe meeting was called to order by President Matt Sisul at 7:00 PM. The meeting was recorded and broadcast via Facebook Live. Special thanks to 7-Eleven for providing refreshments.
2. Guest Speakers and Presentations
● Nick Kimble- 4th ward state representative candidate
● Charles Bryson - Department of Transportation Proposal:
○ Discussion on a proposed Department of Transportation Bill supported by Trailnet, an organization advocating for safe streets.
○ Key features:
■ Include refuse, lighting, and street maintenance for comprehensive city planning.
■ Hire a dedicated city planner and traffic engineer to reduce reliance on external contractors.
■ Proposed implementation date: July 1, 2029, if approved.
3. Reports
● Officer Jon Amesquita: Provided updates on crime statistics, which remain consistent with previous reports.
● Brian Kolde (Neighborhood Improvement Specialist): Spoke about the upcoming National Night Out event, encouraging neighborhood block parties to foster community engagement.
● Alderman Brett Naryan:
○ Discussed a senior citizen tax freeze initiative.
○ Announced a new maintenance agreement with Forest Park Forever.
○ Highlighted updates to the ice skating arena to enable year-round use.
○ Provided information on various propositions on the November ballot.
○ Noted the installation of a stop sign at Canterbury.
4. Committee Updates
● Treasurer’s Report:
○ Joe Nea shared the current bank balance.
● Housing Committee (John Yarish):
○ Discussed a meeting with QT about a proposed location at Jamieson & Arsenal.
○ Reviewed the first stage of the process and results of a traffic study, addressing potential concerns and questions.
○ Announced the next meeting with the board on October 26th with QT with neighborhood leadership from Ellendale, Lindenwood Park and Clifton Heights
● Beautification Committee (Kimberly Hanvy):
○ Announced the completion of a new mural, with a celebration party scheduled for Sunday.
○ Planned rewilding of native plants and removal of overgrowth on October 26th, led by Aaron Donahue.
○ Motion: Maria Gray proposed reimbursement for solar lights purchased for the pollinator garden. The motion was approved.
● SLACO Board (Neil Gilb):
○ Neil will visit other neighborhood associations to learn from their processes and share insights.
5. Executive Board Vote
● President Matt Sisul announced his resignation.
● A motion was made and approved for the following new board members:
○ President: Jacqi Kamp
○ Vice President: Maria Gray
○ Secretary: Sue Moody
● The motion passed with unanimous approval.
