Parks and Recreation

Ellendale has one large City park located within its borders — Francis R Slay Park (formerly Ellendale Park) located at the corner of McCausland and Canterbury Avenues. The City’s website has more information about Francis R Slay Park. Amenities in the park include two ball fields (with backstops and diamonds), one soccer field, a 1-mile paved walking loop trail, and one full, lighted, tennis court with fencing. Amenities in the park cannot be reserved. The park also has restrooms, water fountains, and a playground with slides and climbing features.

Brightside St. Louis

www.brightsidestl.org

Brightside St. Louis, originally named Operation Brightside, was founded in 1982 by Mayor Schoemehl and campaign chairman G. Duncan Bauman (the then publisher of the St. Louis Globe Democrat).

Project Blitz is Brightside St. Louis' campaign to clean up city neighborhoods. Projects can be scheduled year-round, allowing groups to select a clean-up date and location that is convenient for them. Here is information from the City about organizing a community clean-up:

www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/parks/operation-brightside/blitz.cfm

Organize a clean-up project for your area and work with Brightside St. Louis to secure the tools you’ll need. Here is some helpful advice from the City about the responsibilities of a clean-up organizer. (Note: though the City’s information refers to the responsibilities of Block Captains, any resident can organize a clean-up.)

Interested in organizing a clean-up within the Ellendale neighborhood? Contact the ENA Officers and we will do everything we can to assist you.
