Abbott EMS Collecting Socks for Seniors

Abbott EMS (2500 Abbott Place, St. Louis) is a collection site for Sock for Seniors. Collection will continue until December 14th. Socks for Seniors provides a touch of warmth not only to the toes and feet, but the program warms the hearts of those who give as well as those who receive a pair. Sock donations of all types are welcome. From plain white socks to socks with stripes and goofy prints: basic tube socks, footie-style, ankle, thigh high, calf length, holiday themed, anti-slip, plain, goofy, fluffy, soft — all kinds of socks will make an area senior smile. All sizes welcome though the average recipient wears from size 6 to 10. Please, only new or never-before-worn socks still in packaging. Organized by Tracey Swabby, Abbott EMS’s Director of Business Development, sock collections at Abbott began in 2010 and 200-300 pairs of socks have been donated each year since.

All donations stay in the St. Louis metropolitan area and are distributed to area nursing home residents. Since the program started, it has grown in quantity and they are trying to expand the program into their Abbott EMS Illinois Operations as well. “This really is a gift that goes well beyond keeping someone’s feet warm,” Tracey explained. “Wouldn’t it be really cool to fill up an entire ambulance with socks to be delivered to area nursing home residents?” Drop off your sock donation at Abbott EMS’s reception area anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call (314) 768-1000 ext 43112 with any questions. The Ellendale Neighborhood Association appreciates Abbott EMS hosting our bi-monthly meetings so let's show them our support by helping them give a holiday smile to an area nursing home resident that may not have family. ###
