Free Smoke Alarms

The following is a public service announcement originally posted on Nextdoor.com by the President of the Board of Aldermen, Lewis Reed, from City of St. Louis. The original post can be found here here on Nextdoor.com. As a reminder the Ellendale Neighborhood Association encourages its residents to sign up on Nextdoor. This is a location-based community that has been adopted by the City of St. Louis as one of its own communication routes. On Nextdoor.com you will find posts by the ENA, but you will also find information from neighboring communities and from the City of St. Louis agencies.

From the President of the Board of Aldermen, Lewis Reed, from City of St. Louis:

Each year we grieve the loss of human life that results from faulty space heaters and non-functioning detectors. We can prevent this! Please take some time this holiday season to check your detectors.

The St. Louis Fire Department offers to all residents free smoke alarms. Spread the word! Call 314-533-3406 to make a request 24 hours a day.

Please don't wait. Working detectors save lives!

Additional Information

The Fire Department installs, free of charge, long life smoke alarms with lithium power cells, which are designed to last a maximum of 10 years without battery changes. In addition, the St. Louis Fire Department offers free home fire safety surveys and assistance with designing home fire escape plans.

To request a smoke detector for a residential home or apartment, St. Louis City residents can call the STLFD Smoke Detector Hotline at 314-533-3406.
