MEETING NOTES

Location: Abbott EMS, 2500 Abbott Place, St. Louis, Missouri

Meeting began at 7:07 pm

Approval of Minutes, November Meeting Community Reports

  • Alderman Scott Ogilvie (24th Ward)

  • Among other opportunities, The Royale restaurant at 3132 S. Kingshighway St. Louis, MO, 63139, will be hosting one-on-one mayoral candidate close-ups for several of the candidates every Monday, from January 9th through February 20, 2017, starting at 6:30pm.

  • Letters should have been sent out by Great Rivers Greenway to property owners adjacent to the expansion trail, specifically to those streets that will be closed off at McCausland. Several meeting members stated that they had not received such a letter. ENA board requested a copy that will be shared with membership on its social media platforms once available.

  • Update on MSD projects.

  • In 2019 work will begin on a project to eliminate combined sewer and storm water from entering the River des Peres. The plan includes the creation of large storage tunnel 200 feet below the river for storage of the combined overflow that will then be pumped out slowly and properly treated. Water quality in the river is expected to improve from this project. While major work is several years from beginning, some soil testing and utility surveys may begin in the near future.

  • Announcement: A traffic meeting will be held tomorrow, 1/10/17, at the Gathering Church regarding traffic and safety along McCausland mainly north of Manchester, towards I-40 where traffic volume is high.

  • Q: Is curbside pick-up of leaves still occurring throughout neighborhood?

  • A: Yes. If leaves are not being picked up during normal street sweeping times call Citizens Service Bureau (314-622-4800).

  • Update on the downtown Soccer Stadium proposal. Ald. Ogilvie stated it is unlikely there will be an aldermanic vote in the near future to approve public funds for such a project.

  • Q: What is the plan for taking care of overhanging limbs and brush along Ellendale Ave after the new River des Peres extension trail is constructed.

  • A: Construction of trail should involve the removal of adjacent overgrowth and unsafe vegetation, which, along with grading improvements, will make maintenance much easier for both the city and residents near the trail.

  • Officer Don Veile (2nd District)

  • Officer Veile was unable to attend the meeting, but Matt reminded attendees of the Neighborhood Safety Workshop at Bishop DuBourg High School this Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 2pm-4pm.

  • ENA Board still looking for Block Captain volunteers. Please contact Matt Sisul.

Board Report

  • Treasurer’s Report (Joe Nea)

  • November 2016 starting balance was $225.29. Deposits of $42 (membership fees). No expenses this period. The current balance is $267.29.

  • Housing Committee Report (Lesley Wilson)

  • Neighborhood Real-Estate report was made available.

  • Q: Why and when did Piccadilly become a one-way street between Manhattan and Commonwealth? Concern was voiced about safety at Piccadilly/Manhattan and Piccadilly/Commonwealth intersections.

  • A: Meeting members including Ald. Ogilvie were uncertain about timing of direction change, but ENA will look into the matter and report back at a future meeting. Request for additional stop sign for northbound Piccadilly at the intersection of Commonwealth is being considered.

Neighborhood Cleanup Schedule (Matthew Sisul)

  • Neighborhood Clean-up schedule was presented for this Spring for locations throughout the neighborhood. Clean-ups are schedule for six Saturdays from 9am to 12pm: April 1, April 8, April 22, April 29, May 6, and May 20. More details – such as locations – will be made available on the ENA website and social media platforms.

Jerod Boyd representing mayoral candidate Tishaura Jones gave a brief presentation.

  • As a reminder, Matt noted that the ENA as an organization and per our By-Laws cannot endorse any candidate for public office, but since we are part of the community we will not turn away any candidate who wishes to attend a meeting and address the attendees.

Additional Items:

  • Resident thanked KaJauna Thomas (NSO, 24th Ward) who was present at meeting, for fixing pothole on Emilie street in from of his home.

  • Fundraising Committee

  • ENA Vice President, Jacqi Beachler, asked for ideas regarding a possible Membership Drive and/or social engagement. The formation of Fundraising Committee was suggested. Interested volunteers can contact either Matt Sisul or Jacqi Beachler.

  • 2017 ENA Membership Dues

  • Reminder that these are now due for those members wishing to remain in good standing. $6 per person ($3 for ages 65+) and $24 for business membership. Dues help fund upcoming association activities. Dues are not required for general meeting attendance, but member’s dues must be current in order to vote on major issues.
