Volunteers Needed: Ellendale Residents Plan to Participate in 2016 Nation Night Out

The 2016 National Night Out is Tuesday, August 2nd. As one of our first neighborhood social events since re-establishing the Neighborhood Association, Ellendale residents will be meeting to plan participation in this year's National Night Out.

The planning committee will meet at Failoni’s (6715 Manchester Avenue) on Wednesday, June 29, at 7:00 pm.

National Night Out is a nationwide event scheduled on the first Tuesday in August. Many St. Louis area neighborhoods organize activities and participate in the program which is designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. While the traditional 'lights on' and front porch vigils remain a part of NNO, activities have expanded considerably over the years to include block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police, festivals, neighborhood walks, safety fairs, contests, rallies, and meetings.

We are calling on volunteers to help organize and plan evening activities.

Preliminary suggestions include:

  • live music

  • bags and/or washers tournaments

  • a one-mile walk (four laps) around Slay Park and/or a quarter-mile kids’ race

  • sidewalk chalk drawing contest

  • bingo

  • book exchange and non-perishable food drive

  • pot luck or bake sale

If you would like to be a part of the organization committee, please contact Jacqi Kamp (jacqi_beachler@yahoo.com or 314-303-0514). If you have other ideas or would like to help facilitate one of the ideas above, please don't hesitate to volunteer.

Currently, we are trying to reserve Slay Park for the evening hours on August 2nd, but the location is not confirmed, yet. The events will be held from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
